What is the difference between SSI and SSD?

SSI, or Supplemental Security Income, is for people with disabilities who have little or no prior work experience. The amount it pays is partially based on other sources of household income.

SSD, or Social Security Disability Insurance, makes payments to disabled people who previously worked and paid Social Security taxes. The amount paid is determined by the income that the person filing used to earn.
